Backpacking Durrës is a rich and delightful experience with so much to do and see.
And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Durrës.
An itinerary of 3 days in Durrës is enough to see the top attractions. So buckle on and let’s explore Durrës.
1. Amphitheatre of Durrës
The ruins stands tall at a height of 20 m. The length of the place is around 132 m. The ruins has a total width of 113 m.

2. Beach of Durrës
Beach of Durrës is a prominent beach with plenty of Sun and sand for the visitors. Right among the top places to visit in Durrës is the Beach of Durrës.
This pretty seaside spot has buzzing bars and relaxed cafes. The efforts to keep the beach clean are well appreciated.
Take a dip in the water, swim if you want. Grab a sun lounger and allow yourself to relax.
The beach also has several bars and restaurants around.
3. Durrës Archaeological Museum
Durrës Archaeological Museum is a museum collecting archaeological artefacts in the Durrës city.
The museum displays several ancient artefacts from the nearby digs.
On 1951 the arch museum was opened for the public.
4. Durrës Castle
Durrës Castle is a beautiful medieval castle located on a hill. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Durrës. The castle offers sweeping panoramic of the entire area.
Visitor center will provide the required info. The castle once served as the defence system. The castle tower is pretty tall.
The castle must have been a majestic one during its time, for sure. Durrës Castle is a castle of high strategic importance.
The castle is considered to be built by final form created by Emperor of the Byzantine Empire Anastasius I Dicorus.
The castle was built in the year 1st century BC (final form in 5th century).
5. Fatih Mosque
Fatih Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in the Durrës city.
The dome of the mosque is simply stunning.
The notable architecture of the place is an attraction in itself. The building is beautifully designed from outside.
The visitor hours are rather limited. The place is designed beautifully inside.
The Fatih Mosque follows the Ottoman architecture style. On 1503 the mosque was opened for the public.

6. Venetian Tower
Venetian Tower is a tall tower soaring high on the skyline of Durrës city. Add it to your Durrës trip if you have time.
The fab views are something to be seen though. However, crowding is bit of a problem here. You need to pay an entrance fee to get in.
The platform is a great place for sweeping views.

7. Royal Villa of Durrës
Royal Villa of Durrës is a lovely summer villa located in Durrës region.
On 1937 the summer villa was opened for the public. The previous structure was demolished in 1997.
The construction started in 16 June 1927. It is also known by other names – Vila e Zogut.
8. Great Mosque of Durrës
Great Mosque of Durrës is an impressive mosque located in the city of Durrës.
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Durrës trip.
The design of the exterior looks great. Architecture of the mosque is notable, if not more. The dome is designed so beautifully that you will have difficulty looking away.
Visiting hours are limited, that’s a bummber. Interior design of the mosque is truly admirable. The mosque was built in the year 1931.
All in all, whether you are a backpacker, a solo traveler or a female traveler, a couple or a family, there are plenty of things to do in Durrës for everyone.
