Backpacking Gjirokaster is a great fun and a must do for every solo traveler to Albania. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Gjirokaster.

1. Castle of Gjirokastra
Castle of Gjirokastra is an old fortified castle located on the hilltop. Checkout the dark underground wine cellar, which adds an interesting character to the place.
The castle hosts regular events, specially during the summer months. The castle grounds are spread over a great expanse. The castle is located on a hill top, a pretty dot in the scenery.
The fortification here at the castle is well liked by the people. The castle lies bit outside the town.

On 1812 the house museum was opened for the public.

The mosque looks so wonderfully built. Interior design of the mosque is truly admirable. The dome is designed so beautifully that you will have difficulty looking away.
The place is known for its notable architecture. The limited visiting hours are bit of bummer really. The mosque is built in a Ottoman architecture style.

Gjirokastër Obelisk is a heart-felt monument located in Gjirokaster.
8. Teqe Mosque
Teqe Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in the Gjirokaster city. Add it to your Gjirokaster trip if you have time.
The design of the exterior looks great. Dome of the mosque is done craftfully, you are sure to like it. The place is designed beautifully inside.
Architecture of the mosque is notable, if not more. The visitor hours are rather limited. The Teqe Mosque follows the Ottoman architecture style.
9. Mali i Gjerë
Mali i Gjerë is a tall mountain standing majestically in Gjirokaster area.
