Backpacking Zadar is a great fun and a must do for every solo traveler to Croatia. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Zadar.
5 days in Zadar is good time to see the best that city has to offer. So let’s begin our trip to Zadar, shall we?
1. Church of St Donatus
Church of St Donatus is a beautiful church located in the Zadar city.
The church just kinda looks very imposing. Guided tour is available and is very informative. The views from up here are just fabulous.
The old relic can’t be and shouldn’t be missed. The interior floor is decorated quite beautifully. The style in which the church is built is Byzantine architecture.
Donatus of Zadar is considered to be the founder of the church.
2. Zadar Cathedral
Zadar Cathedral is a charming old Cathedral located in the city of Zadar, Croatia. Right among the top places to visit in Zadar is the Zadar Cathedral.
You can visit crypts if you are feeling brave enough. On the church wall you will find several religious artwaork hanging. The ornate interior is eye-catching.
The tombs houses some of the famous people of Zadar. The cathedral houses well crafted statues. The architectural styles that the cathedral is built in are Gothic architecture, Romanesque architecture.

3. Monument to the Sun
Monument to the Sun is a unique artistic monument in Zadar.

4. Museum of Ancient Glass
Museum of Ancient Glass is a naval museum with scale models of a variety of military ships. It is one of the top places to visit in Zadar. Practically scaled models of ships and submarines keep things interesting. The exhibits gives you good insight into the naval power of the times.

5. Kolovare ulica
Kolovare ulica is a cute little spot, though rocky, ideal for spending quiet time. The Kolovare ulica is a part of a rocky coastline which stretches for miles.
6. People’s Square
People’s Square is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Zadar. One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Zadar is the People’s Square. This is where various festivals, concerts and carnivals are held throughout the year.

Land Gate is an old gate providing an entry portal to the old town of Zadar.

8. beach Borik
beach Borik is a renowned beach with a long promenade. It is among the top places to visit in Zadar.
Umbrellas and lounge chairs can be taken on rent. I am sure you will have a lovely day at beach Borik. There are plenty of places to eat and drink located in here.

9. G&V Line Iadera
G&V Line Iadera is an interesting church that can be found in Zadar.
In the church grounds there is a cemetry as well. The majestic altar is the centerpiece of the church. Guided tour is recommend if you are looking to understand more.
There is a cute little chapel here as well. Choir paintings are quite attractive as well.

10. Church of St. Chrysogonus
Church of St. Chrysogonus is a beautiful bell tower located in Zadar city. It is one of the popular attractions in Zadar.
The Church of St. Chrysogonus follows the Romanesque architecture style.

5 Wells Square is a site of historic significance located in Zadar.

Market Zadar is a lively market with fresh produce as well as stands serving hot food. It’s always a treat to visit this local farmers’ markets.

14. St. Mary’s Church
St. Mary’s Church is small yet charming church located in Zadar. It scores high in the list of the best places to visit in Zadar. Though St. Mary’s Church is small, it boasts of a long, rich history.
Making a small donation is always appreciated. Paintings on the walls will catch your attention quick. All in all this small church makes for a quick stop.
You can buy a candle and light, it feels so peaceful. The style in which the small church is built is Romanesque architecture. Čika is considered to be the founder of the small church.

17. Queen Jelena Madijevka Park
Queen Jelena Madijevka Park is a public park located in the Zadar city.
The park has a gazebo for you to sit and relax. The fountain is brilliantly lit up in the evening. The flowers are pink and pretty.

18. Port of Zadar – Travel Port Gaženica
Port of Zadar – Travel Port Gaženica is a bustling harbor for passenger ships and boats. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zadar trip. There are many coffee shops and tourist gift shops here.
The harbor features a lively marina lines with restaurants and shops. The benches are good way to give your feet some relief. The sweeping views of the sea are something else.

19. Zadar’s Roman Forum
Zadar’s Roman Forum are the ever lasting remains of a Roman forum. The place was once a bustling ancient town – a confluence of public, commercial, religious and administrative activity.

Buggy Safari Zadar is your chance to go on an off-road adventure in an ATV. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zadar trip.

Albeit small Perivoj Vladimira Nazora is a mall but pretty park located in the city of Zadar. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zadar trip.

29. St. Simeon’s Church

At the top fab views are all around you. The cemetry has got quite a few notable person buried. The stunning stained glass windows are worthy a long look.

30. Degarra Winery
Degarra Winery is a winery in Zadar with a fantastic facility producing fine quality wine. Add it to your Zadar trip if you have time.
It is spread over a large area and requires a longer visit. Exhibits are informative and educational. To get to the winery you need to get bit outside the city.

32. Golden Wave Beach
Golden Wave Beach is a popular tree lined beach with clear blue water, soft sand & a promenade. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zadar trip.
The beach also has several bars and restaurants around. There are plenty of options to eat here at the Golden Wave Beach. Life gaurds will warn if there is a danger, please listen to them.

All in all, whether you are a backpacker, a solo traveler or a female traveler, a couple or a family, there are plenty of things to do in Zadar for everyone. I have listed not just what to see in Zadar but also what to do. Good thing is that these places can be easily covered in a planned Zadar itinerary.
