If you are in Hungary there are a number of destinations that you’d be hitting. No matter what time of year you come, there’s never a shortage of things to do and sights to see in Sopron.

In my opinion, 4 days in Sopron is good time to see the best that city has to offer. But if you can add 2-3 days more you’d be able to experience rather than ‘see’ that an ordinary tourist does. Let me share with you the best things to do in Sopron and tips to make the most out of your trip.
1. Lake Neusiedl
Lake Neusiedl is an alluring lake, a drop from heaven with clean, clear water.
There is also a park on shore, with a playground for little ones too. With water so clear that you can see through, swimming is a good option.
2. Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park
Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park is a large forest reserve located in the Sopron region.
The reserve is spread over a large tract of land, covering several hundred acres of forested area. If you seek adventure and looking to explore Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park is just the right place.
Quick Facts:
- The highlight of the place includes beautifull grassy meadows, fenland and salt ponds.
Without a doubt this wonderful national park is one amongst the top things to do in Sopron.

3. Fertő-Hanság National Park
Fertő-Hanság National Park is a forest reserve of national importance found in the Sopron region.

- It was in 1991 when it was established.

4. Fire Tower
Fire Tower is a fortified medieval tower located in the city of Sopron.
It was once part of the defensive walls which surrounded the city.

- The medieval tower was built somewhere around 13th-century.

5. Széchenyi Mansion
The chataeu was expanded later on, and an impressive landscape garden was added. But since its construction, villa has changed ownership several times and currently functions as a living museum.

6. Goat Church
Located in the heart of Sopron, Goat Church, is another of the city’s architectural masterpieces.
Even while the facade is gorgeous in their own right, the inside is worth seeing as well. A donation at the entrance is optional but encouraged, since it will go towards the preservation of this piece of history.

- Built in Gothic architecture style, it is eye pleasingly pretty site to look at.

7. Storno House
Storno House is a museum dedicated to one of the most prominent personalities of the city.

8. Saint George Church
Saint George Church, one of city’s medieval church, is one of the city’s many architectural gems.
There is a cemetry on the church grounds, quite peaceful to walk around. The church’s walls and ceilings are covered with intricate frescoes, and it features works by some of the well-known painters of the time.

- The church follows the Baroque architecture style, easily evident to a person with keen eye.

9. Fertőrákos mithraeum
Fertőrákos mithraeum are the imposing remains of an ancient Roman temple still standing majestically.
The tall corinthian columns are the highlights of a trip to Fertőrákos mithraeum.

- It doesn’t take an expert to see that it is built in a Ancient Rome style.
- The roman temple has a height of around 6 m.

10. Central Mining Museum
This interesting museum houses exhibits centered on mining and its related history of the region.
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Sopron trip.

11. Old Synagogue
Old Synagogue is a prominent synagogue located in the older part of the Sopron city.
It is no doubt a gem of long glorious Jewish heritage of Sopron. Checkout the in-house museum on the Jewish history.

12. Main Square
Main Square is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Sopron.
It is a part of the old town and a popular meeting point.
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Sopron trip.
