Romania has long been my favorite, with great many sights to see. There are plenty of top things to see in Cluj-Napoca, the beauty and charm of this incredible city will be showered upon you as soon as you arrive.
And in this Cluj-Napoca blog I’ll share with you some of my top things to do in Cluj-Napoca.
In my opinion, 4 days in Cluj-Napoca is good time to see the best that city has to offer. But if you can add 2-3 days more you’d be able to experience rather than ‘see’ that an ordinary tourist does. Let me share with you the best things to do in Cluj-Napoca and tips to make the most out of your trip.
1. Cluj-Napoca Central Park
Cluj-Napoca Central Park is a large landscaped park, an oasis of greenery, located in Cluj-Napoca.
It will not be wrong to say that Cluj-Napoca Central Park is truly an icon of landscape architecture.
Cluj-Napoca Central Park provides the visitors with a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of Cluj-Napoca. Sit on a bench and meditate or bring your favorite book or simply sit and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

2. Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden
Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden is a large expanse of green located in the very heart of Cluj-Napoca.
The Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden is a botanical delight consisting of an arboretum, a herbarium and numerous greenhouses.
This greenhouse is where city’s most exotic plant species are to be found. The dome-shaped greenhouses, mainly housing tropical plants, are the highlight of this place.

- Easy to get to Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden is located in the southern Cluj-Napoca.
- The botanical garden stretches for a length of around Large.
- It is Sámuel Brassai, the famed Hungarian linguist who is credited with found this gem of a site.
- Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden was opened in 1872.
Without a doubt this wonderful botanical garden is one amongst the top things to do in Cluj-Napoca.

3. St. Michael’s Church
A beautiful addition to city’s architecture, St. Michael’s Church is a house of christian worship located in Cluj-Napoca.
As this is a sacred location, anyone who want to enter are advised to cover their knees and shoulders. Frescoes and gold details adorn the ceiling of the church.

- The church was opened on 1487.

4. Cetățuia Park
Cetățuia Park is a beautifully landscaped park spread over a large area in Cluj-Napoca.
This fabulous park was developed with the sole aim to promote the good health of the citizen.
It’s easy to spend an entire day here, wandering through these flourishing gardens. Enjoy the landscaped garden consisting of fountains, flower arrangements and tranquil bodies of water.
With so much to offer, no wonder Cetățuia Park is one of the top things to do in Cluj-Napoca.

5. Unirii Square
Unirii Square is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Cluj-Napoca.
This is where various festivals, concerts and carnivals are held throughout the year.

6. Cluj-Napoca Tailors’ Bastion
A centuries-old ruined fortress perched on top of a hill.
You can follow the hiking trail which leads to this old fort. Not much to see actually only the foundation stones lying bare in this historic fort ruin.

- The fort ruins was built somewhere around 15th-century.
A natural crowd puller, Cluj-Napoca Tailors’ Bastion is right up there in the list of best things to do in Cluj-Napoca.

7. Bánffy Castle
Bánffy Castle is a medieval fortified structure perched over a hilltop.
Start with the visitor center, they will help you get oriented quickly. Encapsulated within its walls are the unforgetable parts of Cluj-Napoca’s history.

- Brought to life by the architect Johann Eberhard Blaumann, castle is a classic example of fine Baroque architecture.
- The castle was opened on 1786.
8. Assumption Cathedral
Assumption Cathedral is a beautiful Cathedral situated in Cluj-Napoca.
The cathedral is adorned with a beautiful round dome and the views from up their are simply fantastic. The entrance features an elegant portico and a succession of magnificent archways.
Quick Facts:
- Touching a height of 64 m, the cathedral was built in 15th-century.
- A beautiful example of Byzantine architecture style, the cathedral holds the burials of Bartolomeu Anania.
- The cathedral belongs to the Greek Orthodox faith, but is visited by others too.
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Cluj-Napoca trip.

9. National Museum of Transylvanian History
National Museum of Transylvanian History is a museum in Cluj-Napoca documenting in details the region’s cultural history.

Ethnographical Museum of Transylvania is an ethnography museum showcasing the people and culture of Cluj-Napoca region.

Everything that defines a civilisation, an era can be found here – traditional clothing, decorative items such as jewelry, household items such like furniture, and crafts such as pottery.

12. Hajongard cemetery
Follow the winding paths lead upto a sprawling centuries old burial ground.
As you walk through the cemetery, you would come across decorated tombstones, somber sculpters and a cute little chapel. The Hajongard cemetery offers an unusual yet fascinating look into the country’s not-so-distant past.

- The cemetery is located on Avram Iancu Street.
- The cemetery was built somewhere around sixteenth century.
- Hajongard cemetery is also the final resting place of greats such as Jenő Dsida, Károly Kós, Miklós Bánffy, Sámuel Brassai.
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Cluj-Napoca trip.

13. Matthias Corvinus Monument
Erected as a monument, Matthias Corvinus Monument is a beautifully sculpted statue in Cluj-Napoca.

- The statue monument is dedicated to the King Matthias Corvinus.

14. Cluj-Napoca Franciscan Church
Cluj-Napoca Franciscan Church, the centuries old landmark, is considered to be one of Cluj-Napoca’s most gorgeous churches.
There is so much beauty in this church, from the front facade to the interior that it’s hard to choose a favorite. A special feature of the basilica is its high altar and ceiling, embellished with gold trimmings all around.
