Backpacking Berat is a great fun and a must do for every solo traveler to Albania. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Berat.
Going on a 4 days trip to Berat is sufficient to see some of the city’s top sights. So let’s begin our trip to Berat, shall we?
1. Berat Castle
Berat Castle is a medieval fortified castle perched over the top of hill. Checkout the dark underground wine cellar, which adds an interesting character to the place.
The castle lies bit outside the town. The castle has undergone expansion many times. Visitor center will provide the required info.
The castle gets really crowded during the peak time. And the compound is particularly large.
2. National Ethnographic Museum
It is one of the most popular tourist places in Berat.
3. National Iconographic Museum “Onufri”
National Iconographic Museum “Onufri” is a museum dedicated to the arts and craft of iconography.
4. Gorica Bridge
It is one of the top places to visit in Berat.
The Gorica Bridge follows the Ottoman architecture style. The total length of the bridge stands at around 129 m. The construction of the bridge ended on 1927.

5. Holy Trinity Church, Lavdar i Oparit
Holy Trinity Church, Lavdar i Oparit is a house of Christian worship located in the city of Berat.
The stained glass window is an art piece in itself. The church has a beautifully decorated altar. Don’t miss the stunning views from the top.
The high vault has lot of details built into it. Guided tour is recommend if you are looking to understand more.
6. Bachelors’ Mosque
Bachelors’ Mosque is an impressive mosque located in the city of Berat. One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Berat is the Bachelors’ Mosque.
The place is known for its notable architecture. The design outside is magnifique. The dome of the mosque is simply stunning.
Walk into the building and you will know how beautiful interiors are. Visiting hours are limited, that’s a bummber. The mosque was built in the year 1828.
It was designated as world heritage site in 1961.
7. Lead Mosque
Lead Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in the Berat city.
Dome of the mosque is done craftfully, you are sure to like it. The notable architecture of the mosque is an highlight. The limited visiting hours are bit of bummer really.
You would love how the building is designed from inside. The building is beautifully designed from outside.
8. Bulevardi Republika
If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Berat trip.
The strip runs for a mile or so. The street remains very popular among the visitors. The shops are touristy but fun for sure.
There are plenty of open air cafes around where you can relax and enjoy a cup of Java! The street has no. of shops, all full of people.
9. Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church is an interesting church that can be found in Berat.
Raise your head to admire the high vault. The views from top are stunning, don’t miss it. Drop your head to admire the prettily decorated floor.
And the altar pieces are the icing on the cake. Stop and take a moment to look at the choir paintings.
10. House Museum Qako
House Museum Qako is a house museum with a focus on showcasing personal items. Add it to your Berat trip if you have time. House Museum Qako is a living museum, a walk through the personal life.
House Museum Qako really is a beautiful and charming house. If you are someone who likes architecture, House Museum Qako should be in your todo list. The house museum is truly meant for the fans.

11. Red Mosque
Red Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in the Berat city.
The dome is designed so beautifully that you will have difficulty looking away. Visitor hours are quite limited. Interior design of the mosque is truly admirable.
The mosque looks so wonderfully built. Architecture of the mosque is notable, if not more.
12. Mal Shpirag
Mal Shpirag is a tall mountain standing majestically in Berat area. Add it to your Berat trip if you have time.
13. Kantina e Veres Alpeta ( Alpeta Winery )
Kantina e Veres Alpeta ( Alpeta Winery ) is a winery with a nice vineyard and a wine making facility.
Guided tour is available and is very informative. The winery is located outside the city so plan accordingly. And the winery is covered is a large area.
The exhibits are educational, take a better look.
14. Nurellari Winery Cellar and Guest House
Nurellari Winery Cellar and Guest House is a winery with a tour of the vineyard and wine making facilities. Add it to your Berat trip if you have time.
To get to the winery you need to get bit outside the city. The winery is spread over a large area. Exhibits have a high degree of educational value.
The guided tour is worthwhile, take it.
