    Backpacking Yerevan is such a fun experience as you’d never run out of things to do. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Yerevan.

    An itinerary of 5 days in Yerevan is enough to see the top attractions. So let’s begin our trip to Yerevan, shall we?

    1. Republic Square


    Republic Square is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Yerevan. It is a part of the old town and a popular meeting point.
    Alexander Tamanian is the one who designed this magnificent square. The square is spread in an area of 3 ha. The construction of the square was completed on 1977.
    The construction started in 1926.

    2. Matenadaran


    Matenadaran is a specialized research institute located in the city of Yerevan. It is among the top places to visit in Yerevan. Matenadaran acts as a base for researchers looking for the further advancement in the field.
    The list of architects include Arthur Meschian, Mark Grigorian. The institute was established in 3 March 1959.

    3. Tsitsernakaberd


    Tsitsernakaberd is a memorial complex located in the city of Yerevan. The memorial serves as a symbol, a remembrance and a stark reminder.

    Mother Armenia monument is a beautifully sculpted statue which was erected as a monument in the Yerevan city.

    6. Yerevan Opera Theatre

    Artists from all over the world come here, it’s that good! The opera theater is housed in an elegant historical building. Watchout for the excellent accoustics, one of the speciality of the opera theater.
    This grand opera house is also a cultural landmark of Yerevan city. Yerevan Opera Theatre is truly an amazing place for music and dance lovers.

    7. History Museum Of Armenia


    History Museum Of Armenia is a museum housing historical artefacts. The museum comprises of numerous rooms housing archaeological collections, items of art and numismatics belonging to the region.
    The history museum is housed in a beautiful building. Overall, the museum looks well organised and very well presented. On 1919 the history museum was opened for the public.
    The size of the collection is around Archaeological, Numismatic, Ethnographic.

    8. Etchmiadzin Cathedral

    Etchmiadzin Cathedral is a beautiful Cathedral situated in Yerevan. Right among the top places to visit in Yerevan is the Etchmiadzin Cathedral.
    On the church wall you will find several religious artwaork hanging. The ornate interior is eye-catching. The tombs belong to some of the who’s who of Yerevan.
    The frescoes in the cathedral are worth looking at. The cathedral is conveniently located in the city’s old town. The Etchmiadzin Cathedral follows the Armenian Architecture style.
    The chief architect of the cathedral is Gregory the Illuminator.

    Yerevan Noy Wine Brandy Vodka Factory is a winery with a nice vineyard and a wine making facility.
    It is spread over a large area and requires a longer visit. The winery is located outside the city so plan accordingly. Exhibits have a high degree of educational value.
    Guided tour is available and is very informative.

    The ancient relic is more than noteworthy. Drop your head to admire the prettily decorated floor. The style in which the church is built is Armenian Architecture.
    It was designated as world heritage site in 2000 (24th session).

    22. Mount Aragats


    Mount Aragats is a volcano at a high elevation with a towering peak. Add it to your Yerevan trip if you have time.
    The volcano is located at an elevation of 4,090 m. The age of the rock here is estimated to be around Holocene.

    23. Hovhannavank


    Hovhannavank is a religious complex founded centuries ago.
    The monastery also houses religious scholars and monks. Hovhannavank is a nice tranquil place away from the chaos. The monastery features a beautiful church, religious library & a museum with historical artifacts.
    The monastery is built in a Armenian Architecture style. The construction of the monastery was completed on 1216.

    24. Lovers’ Park


    Lovers’ Park is a public park located in the Yerevan city. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Yerevan trip.
    The attached cafe is quite chill. If you are a family, you will surely enjoy the park. The park even has a gazebo, great for those pictures.
    Also, scroll through the brilliantly crafted statues of Lovers’ Park. The playground at the park is also an added attraction. Pierre Rambach is the one who designed this magnificent park.
    The park is spread in an area of 2 ha.

    25. Yerevan Zoo


    Yerevan Zoo is a great city zoo housing a myriad of animals.
    The variety of birds at the zoo is astonishing. It is spread over a large area. You will find that the exhibits are quite educational.
    The zoo is a good choice for some family time. Feeding sessions are a great way to learn and interact with animals. The zoo is spread in an area of 35 ha.

    26. Yerevan Brandy Company


    Yerevan Brandy Company is a unique museum with an exhibit featuring history of speciality spirit in the region. Add it to your Yerevan trip if you have time. Watch the short movie to understand how this spirit is made & aged.
    If you want to buy some for yourself, you can do so as well from the brand store. Head to the tasting room if you are keen to try on some delicious varieties. The bit on the history of distilling is quite informative I’d say.

    27. Yerevan Water World


    With numerous activities, Yerevan Water World is quite a popular waterpark. The water park has several fun rides, water slides, tubing wave pool and a wave machine.
    And when you are hungry you can eat at the in-house eatery. Pay attention to the life guards, it will keep you safe. The waterpark is spread over a large area.
    Use the changing room, they are small but clean. Yerevan Water World is a good idea on a hot summer day. On 2001 the waterpark was opened for the public.

    28. Freedom Square

    Freedom Square is the central square of the city of Yerevan. Add it to your Yerevan trip if you have time. This is where various festivals, concerts and carnivals are held throughout the year.

    29. Karen Demirchyan Complex


    Located in the city of Yerevan, Karen Demirchyan Complex is an entertainment complex with a variety of recreational options.

    The stunning stained glass windows are worthy a long look. And the altar pieces are the icing on the cake. Getting to the top requires you to take the flight of stairs.
    A quiet looking cemetry adores the church ground. Stop and take a moment to look at the choir paintings. The style in which the church is built is Armenian Architecture.

    Rusa II is the builder behind the winery. The winery stands tall at a height of 901 m. The excavation dates of the site goes back to 1939.

    Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is a centuries old religious complex located near the city of Yerevan.
    The monastery is noted for its beautiful chapel, old library and cloister.

    Yerevan Lake is a charming lake in the Yerevan region. Add it to your Yerevan trip if you have time.
    The lake has a serenity around it that wraps up on you quickly. There are so many biking trails, and happy bikers too. Boating is a very relaxed way to enjoy your time in the lake.
    The water is clear and you can see through. If you are looking to be in nature, this is a good option.
