Backpacking Zvartnots is a rich and delightful experience with so much to do and see. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Zvartnots.
An itinerary of 5 days in Zvartnots is enough to see the top attractions. So buckle on and let’s explore Zvartnots.
1. Republic Square, Yerevan
Republic Square, Yerevan is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Zvartnots. It is a part of the old town and a popular meeting point.
Alexander Tamanian is the one who designed this magnificent square. The square is spread in an area of 3 ha. The construction of the square was completed on 1977.

Do pay homage to the fallen before you leave. The memorial complex is housed in a notable building with elegant architecture. Visiting the memorial complex is an emotional experience.
5. Etchmiadzin Cathedral
Etchmiadzin Cathedral is a majestic Cathedral standing tall in the city of Zvartnots, Armenia.

This grand opera house is also a cultural landmark of Zvartnots city. The Yerevan Opera Theatre is known for hosting both regional as well as global opera artists. Yerevan Opera Theatre is truly an amazing place for music and dance lovers.
The acoustics are fantastic, perfect for the musicals! The opera theater is housed in an elegant historical building. The chief architect of the opera theater is Alexander Tamanian.
On 20 January 1933 the opera theater was opened for the public.

Overall, the museum looks well organised and very well presented. The history museum is housed in a beautiful building.
9. Saint Hripsime Church
Saint Hripsime Church is a beautiful church located in the Zvartnots city.
The church just kinda looks very imposing. The majestic altar is the centerpiece of the church. The views are just wonderful.

12. Erebuni Fortress
Erebuni Fortress is an old fort standing majestically in the Zvartnots area. One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Zvartnots is the Erebuni Fortress.
The fort is most definitely a popular choice to visit. Taking a slow, relaxing walk is a good idea. The fort is actually all made of stone.

Victory Park, Yerevan allows you to spend time actively – engage yourself in walking, running or cycling. The urban park is spread in an area of 34 ha.
15. Cafesjian Center for the Arts
Cafesjian Center for the Arts is a lovely modern art gallery located in the Zvartnots city.
On 9 November 2009 the modern art gallery was opened for the public. The size of the collection is around more than 5,000.
16. Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, Yerevan
Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, Yerevan is a beautiful Cathedral situated in Zvartnots. It is one of the popular attractions in Zvartnots.
Ready to go underground? Well checkout the crypts of the cathedral. The cathedral houses well crafted statues. The tombs belong to some of the who’s who of Zvartnots.

The house museum is truly meant for the fans. Sergei Parajanov Museum really is a beautiful and charming house. If you are someone who likes architecture, Sergei Parajanov Museum should be in your todo list.
On 1988 the house museum was opened for the public.

18. Yerevan Noy Wine Brandy Vodka Factory
Yerevan Noy Wine Brandy Vodka Factory is a winery with a nice vineyard and a wine making facility. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Zvartnots.
The winery is located outside the city so plan accordingly. Exhibits are informative and educational. It is spread over a large area and requires a longer visit.
Take the guided tour if you want to make it more interesting.

Hovhannavank is a landmark monastery built centuries ago.
Hovhannavank is a nice tranquil place away from the chaos. The monastery is noted for its beautiful chapel, old library and cloister. The monastery also houses religious scholars and monks.
20. National Gallery of Armenia
National Gallery of Armenia is a museum in Zvartnots dedicated to collecting and preserving arts. It is a popular tourist destination in Zvartnots.
21. Erebuni Museum
Erebuni Museum is a museum collecting and presenting archaeological artefacts.
22. Zoravor Surp Astvatsatsin Church
Zoravor Surp Astvatsatsin Church is an interesting church that can be found in Zvartnots. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip.
Get to the top for the top notch views. Guided tour is available and is very informative. And the altar pieces will steal your attention.
The cemetry has got quite a few notable person buried. The stunning stained glass windows are worthy a long look. The style in which the church is built is Armenian church architecture.
On 1694 the church was opened for the public.
23. Lovers’ Park
Lovers’ Park is a relaxing urban park, an escape from the urban jungle of Zvartnots city.
Lovers’ Park allows you to spend time actively – engage yourself in walking, running or cycling.
24. Yerevan Zoo
Yerevan Zoo is a great city zoo housing a myriad of animals. Add it to your Zvartnots trip if you have time.
The big wild cats are one of the prime draws of Yerevan Zoo. There is a small cafe attached to the zoo. Many animals from other regions can be also find here.
Take part in the feeding session, its a fun way to interact with animals. Plenty of animal species are to be found in this zoo. The zoo is spread in an area of 35 ha.
25. Karmravor Church
Karmravor Church is a house of Christian worship located in the city of Zvartnots.
There is a cemetry on the church grounds, quite peaceful to walk around. The religious paintings at choir are worth second look. The church looks kinda imposing, and I mean it in a positive way.
The stained glass windows are particularly stunning to look at. At the top fab views are all around you. The style in which the church is built is Armenian Architecture.

26. Yerevan Brandy Company
Yerevan Brandy Company is a unique museum with an exhibit featuring history of speciality spirit in the region. Add it to your Zvartnots trip if you have time. Watch the short movie to understand how this spirit is made & aged.
If you want to buy some for yourself, you can do so as well from the brand store. Head to the tasting room if you are keen to try on some delicious varieties. The bit on the history of distilling is quite informative I’d say.
27. Yerevan Water World
Yerevan Water World is a large waterpark located in the Zvartnots city. The water park has several fun rides, water slides, tubing wave pool and a wave machine.
The in-house eateries serve good food. A fun way to spend a day out indeed. Pay attention to the life guards, it will keep you safe.
You can also use the changing rooms available here. Yerevan Water World is a good idea on a hot summer day. On 2001 the waterpark was opened for the public.

28. Freedom Square, Yerevan
Freedom Square, Yerevan is the main square located in the central Zvartnots. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip. This is where various festivals, concerts and carnivals are held throughout the year.

29. Shoghakat Church
Shoghakat Church is a house of Christian worship located in the city of Zvartnots.
If you look below you will the floor decoration quite interesting. Don’t miss the stunning views from the top. Getting to the top requires you to take the flight of stairs.
There is a cute little chapel here as well. The cemetry is where the famous and powerful people of the Zvartnots are buried. The Shoghakat Church follows the Armenian Architecture style.

30. Karen Demirchyan Complex

32. Katoghike Church, Yerevan
Katoghike Church, Yerevan is an interesting church that can be found in Zvartnots. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip.
The art pieces that decorate the altar adds to its beauty. Bow down and you will see the colorfully painted floor. A quiet looking cemetry adores the church ground.
Views from the top are simply gorgeous. The fab views are something to be seen though.
33. Modern Art Museum of Yerevan
Modern Art Museum of Yerevan is an interesting museum collecting some of the finest pieces of modern art.
The Modern Art Museum is located at an elevation of 865 m. The area served include Yerevan.
34. Saint Sarkis Cathedral, Yerevan
Saint Sarkis Cathedral, Yerevan is a charming old Cathedral located in the city of Zvartnots, Armenia. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip.
Walking inside the crypt might sound spooky but is actually fun. The frescoes are lovable even if you are not into art. Also, scroll through the brilliantly crafted statues of Saint Sarkis Cathedral, Yerevan.
The soothing tunes of the old organ has a calming effect. The Saint Sarkis Cathedral, Yerevan follows the Armenian church architecture style. On 1842 the cathedral was opened for the public.
35. Byurakan Observatory
Byurakan Observatory is an observatory of great regional and national importance. Byurakan Observatory is in-fact one of the top observatories in the area. Byurakan Observatory is also an important center for astronomical studies.
A visit to Byurakan Observatory is truly a treat for the amateur astronomers. Stargazing is a popular activity at this observatory. The observatory is located on the slope of a hill close to Zvartnots.

43. Swan Lake
Swan Lake is an alluring lake, a drop from heaven with clean, clear water.
Biking here is fun, the trails are well marked. The water could be really deep, watch yourself. The lake is for families to have fun, fore sure.
You will find that the water is crystal clear. There is a walking track, so it’s almost impossible to lose your way.
44. House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian
House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian is a house museum focusing to collecting personal items. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip. The museum has an exhibition of items relating to the person.

46. Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is a religious complex founded centuries ago. Add it to your Zvartnots trip if you have time.
The monastery features a beautiful church, religious library & a museum with historical artifacts. The monastery is built in a Armenian Architecture style. The chief architect of the monastery is Gregory the Illuminator.
47. Dalan Art Gallery and Cafe “Abovyan12”
Dalan Art Gallery and Cafe “Abovyan12” is a museum in Zvartnots housing fantastic pieces of art.
48. Teishebaini
Teishebaini is a winery in Zvartnots with a fantastic facility producing fine quality wine. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zvartnots trip.
The winery is spread over a large area. Guided tour is recommend if you are looking to understand more. The exhibits are educational, take a better look.
The winery is located bit outside the town, but it isn’t to reach. Rusa II is credited with building the winery. The winery stands tall at a height of 901 m.
