Traveling to Istria soon and can’t decide where to visit? You are in luck. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Istria.
An itinerary of 5 days in Istria is enough to see the top attractions. So buckle on and let’s explore Istria.
1. Pula Arena
Pula Arena are the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater complete with stands for spectators. In the attached museum you can see a display of coins & ceramics that the ancient civilization used.
Undoubtedly, Pula Arena makes for a beautiful backdrop for your pictures. Indeed, the roman amphitheater throws a fascinating insight into the lives of Romans. Pula Arena is truly a piece of our collective preserved history.
Pula Arena is considered one of the most well-preserved ancient theatres of the entire region. During its prime the theatre could host thousands of people at a time. The Pula Arena follows the Ancient Roman architecture style.
On 27 BC the roman amphitheater was opened for the public.
2. Euphrasian Basilica
Euphrasian Basilica is a beautiful church located in the Istria city. It is among the top places to visit in Istria.
Bow down and you will see the colorfully painted floor. The beautiful stained glass are in the league of their own. There is a cute little chapel here as well.
Raise your head to admire the high vault. The fab views are something to be seen though. The style in which the church is built is Byzantine architecture.
On 553 AD the church was opened for the public. Some of the famous burials here include Maurus of Parentium.
3. Brijuni
Brijuni are a group of small islands, located off the coast of Istria.
The islands is spread in an area of 33.9 km². 14 is the total number of islands in the group.
4. Kamenjak
Kamenjak is a nature reserve, and a protected area, with a lush green jungle scenery. Right among the top places to visit in Istria is the Kamenjak. The diverse ecology of Kamenjak also includes marshland and lagoons.
The botanical reserve is spread over a large tract of land, covering several hundred acres of forested area. THere are walking and cycling trails throughout for you to actively enjoy the place.
5. Temple of Augustus, Pula
Temple of Augustus, Pula is an ancient Roman temple found in the city of Istria. Tall corinthian columns are the highlights of this ancient Roman temple.

6. Lim
Lim is a bay with a beautiful coastline located in Istria. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Istria.
7. Church of St. Euphemia, Rovinj
Church of St. Euphemia, Rovinj is an interesting church that can be found in Istria.
The stained glass windows are particularly stunning to look at. I usually look for altar, it usually tells you how beautiful the church is. And you won’t be disappointed here. The cemetry is where the famous and powerful people of the Istria are buried.
Not to mention the altar pieces, simply stunning. The ancient relic adds to the charms of the church. The church is built in a Baroque style.
On 1725 the church was opened for the public. Some of the famous burials here include Saint Euphemia.

8. Tartini Square
Tartini Square is the central square of the city of Istria. It scores high in the list of the best places to visit in Istria. It is a part of the old town and a popular meeting point.

9. Arch of the Sergii
Arch of the Sergii stands as one of the entrances to the old town of Arch of the Sergii.
The old gate is designed in a classical style. Turrets and medallions adorn this majestic gate. The Arch of the Sergii has a beautifully carved exterior facade, with lot of detailing.

10. Verudela
Verudela is a nice wide beach with all the amenities you need to make for a great experience. It is one of the popular attractions in Istria.
You can also take on rent an umbrella and a lounge chair. Verudela is literally a paradise on earth, so damn good. I recommend you wear beach shoes which are comfortable.
Sun loungers offer a great way to relax. If you are feeling hungry you can have a snack from the food vendors here.
11. Jama – Grotta Baredine
Jama – Grotta Baredine presents you with an impressive pottery demonstration. Pottery is a skillful trade and you will get to appreciate it even more after the visit. And guess what, you can also try your hands on the potter’s wheel.
The pottery gives you an interesting insight into the nation’s culture. This is an active way to spend your time.
12. Sečovlje Saltworks
Sečovlje Saltworks is a public park located in the Istria city. It is a popular tourist destination in Istria.
The park has plenty of walkways to keep you busy. The park makes for a great spot for taking pictures. The flowers in the park are really nice.
A good place for families to visit. The fountain lit up brilliantly at the night. It was designated as world heritage site in 28 October 1992.

13. Aquapark Istralandia
Aquapark Istralandia is a large waterpark located in the Istria city. The water park has several fun rides, water slides, tubing wave pool and a wave machine.
Pay attention to the life guards, it will keep you safe. Spending your day here at the waterpark is a fun idea. The waterpark is a great choice to visit on a hot summer day.
It is spread over a large area and requires a longer visit. And when you are hungry you can eat at the in-house eatery.
14. Aquarium Pula
Aquarium Pula is an aquarium located in the city of Istria. One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Istria is the Aquarium Pula.
Undoubtedly, Aquarium Pula is well kept by its staff. You will find that the exhibits are quite educational. The collection at the aquarium is quite diverse.
The rescued sea turtles are the most interesting aspect of the aquarium. Feeding sessions are a great way to learn and interact with animals.

15. Brijuni National Park
Brijuni National Park is a forest reserve of national importance found in the Istria region.

The national park has a beautiful river by it. You can also stay in a lodge for the night. The national park is spread in an area of 33.9 km².

16. Villa Angiolina
Villa Angiolina is a green space open for public in the city of Istria. It is one of the top places to visit in Istria.
The park has a nice calm pond to sit by. The statues placed here are stunning to say the least. There is a small cafe attached to the park.

17. Aquacolors
Aquacolors is a popular waterpark located in the city of Istria. The water park has several fun rides, water slides, tubing wave pool and a wave machine.

18. San Nicolò
San Nicolò is an enduring stone lighthouse erected quite a while back. San Nicolò has been an important signal point to warn incoming ships away from the shoreline. This pretty whitewashed lighthouse can be seen from miles.
I’d say the nautical museum was a big hit. It’s really windy at the top. Pay a small fee to get in.
The lighthouse has had a long standing journey through time. If you are a family, you will surely enjoy the lighthouse.
19. Park Prirode Učka
Add it to your Istria trip if you have time.
20. Koversada
Koversada is a prominent beach with plenty of Sun and sand for the visitors.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink located in here. For a small fee you can borrow lounge chair and umbrella. Don’t forget to wear comfortable beach shoes.
Swimming is a good option, if you are up for it. A great spot by the ocean to chill! The beach is located at an elevation of 12 m.
21. Praetorian Palace
Praetorian Palace is a majestic palace situated in the city of Istria. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Istria trip.
The style in which the palace is built is Venetian Gothic architecture.

22. Dragonja
Dragonja is a site of a famous hiking route. It gives you a perfect opportunity to get out and do something active instead of just regular site seeing.

Plaža Girandella for Adults, Rabac is a popular tree lined beach with clear blue water, soft sand & a promenade.
Plaža Girandella for Adults, Rabac is truly a paradise that you have been looking for. You will find that the water is crystal clear. There are sunbeds if you just want to lie down and relax.

31. Kozlović Winery
Kozlović Winery is a winery in Istria with a fantastic facility producing fine quality wine. Add it to your Istria trip if you have time.
The exhibits are educational, take a better look. The winery is located bit outside the town, but it isn’t to reach. The winery is spread over a large area.

32. Grisia Street
There are plenty of restaurants nearby to satisfy your hunger pangs. Grisia Street is one of the most beautiful streets you’ll see. The street has a quite a lot of shops around.
The shops are touristy but fun for sure. Choose from the cafes available.
33. Bijeca
Bijeca is a renowned beach with a long promenade. Add it to your Istria trip if you have time.
The water is clear and you can see through. The waves here are really enjoyable. It is really a lovely day to spend here at the beach.
The restaurant at the beach serve a variety of seafood. Make use of the changing rooms facilities, they are good.
34. Nesactium
Nesactium is a a pre-historic dig spread over a large area.
The restoration of the archaeological site to its original glory is commendable. I am sure you will find the archaeological site a fascinating place. The remains of the settlement have a rich history.

35. Galebove stijene
Galebove stijene is a popular tree lined beach with clear blue water, soft sand & a promenade. Add it to your Istria trip if you have time.
The beach is very clean, and I request every visitor to keep it that way. Life gaurds will warn if there is a danger, please listen to them. The beach is great for kids as well.

36. Festinsko kraljevstvo
Festinsko kraljevstvo is an extensive cave system with brilliant limestone ‘interiors’.
You need to pay an entrance fee to get in. If you look closely, you will see a lot of strange shapes on the inner walls. The many chambers of the cave presents an exciting appeal to the explorer in you.

37. Javni zavod krajinski park Strunjan
Javni zavod krajinski park Strunjan is a green space open for public in the city of Istria. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Istria trip.
Indeed it is a good place for taking photographs. The playground at the park is also an added attraction. Don’t miss any of the details in the park’s statues.
The flowers are pure explosion of color. You would love the calm waters of the pond.
38. Veruda
Veruda is a lovely marina, a beautiful part of Istria city.
39. Zip Line Pazin Cave
Zip Line Pazin Cave is a beautiful cave, a monument of nature, built by geomorphic activities of mother earth. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Istria trip.
The entire landscape looks like another world. The exit and entrance are at the same end. It can get chilled inside, bring a jacket.
Stay on the course and avoid venturing to restricted areas. Recommend you to wear comfy clothes.
40. Vinakoper
Vinakoper is a winery with a nice vineyard and a wine making facility.
The winery lies bit outside the town. Guided tour is recommend if you are looking to understand more. Exhibits are informative and educational.
It is spread over a large area.

41. Veštar
Veštar is a prominent beach with plenty of Sun and sand for the visitors. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Istria trip.
The water is crystal clear, very lovely. It also has these small makeshift bars where you can get a drink. You can also use the changing rooms available here.
The beach also has several bars and restaurants around. There are food vendors on the beach where you can grab little something to eat.
