Backpacking Himarë is a great fun and a must do for every solo traveler to Albania. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Himarë.
3 days in Himarë is good time to see the best that city has to offer. So buckle on and let’s explore Himarë.
1. Porto Palermo Castle
Porto Palermo Castle is a beautiful medieval castle located on a hill. The castle offers sweeping panoramic of the entire area.
The castle was an important aspect in the city’s defence system. The castle tower is pretty tall. You can also enjoy live events, which are organised here.
The large compound of the castle is a good place to wander. The castle is located on a hill top, a pretty dot in the scenery. The castle stands tall at a height of 10 m.
2. Livadi Beach
Livadi Beach is a renowned beach with a long promenade. It is one of the popular attractions in Himarë.
For a small fee you can borrow lounge chair and umbrella. I recommend you wear beach shoes which are comfortable. Take a lounge chair and soak-in the beautiful sun.
Pay attention to the life guards, it will keep you safe. A great spot by the ocean to chill!
3. Gjipe Beach
Gjipe Beach is a nice wide beach with all the amenities you need to make for a great experience.
The water is clear and lovely. It also has these small makeshift bars where you can get a drink. It is really a lovely day to spend here at the beach.
Don’t forget to wear comfortable beach shoes. Swimming is a good option, if you are up for it.
4. Jala Beach
Jala Beach is a prominent beach with plenty of Sun and sand for the visitors. It is one of the top things to do in Himarë.
The efforts to keep the beach clean are well appreciated. And if you need a bite, there are vendors around the beach. Jala Beach is truly a paradise that you have been looking for.
You will have great fun in the waves. The restaurant at the beach serve a variety of seafood.
5. Llamani Beach
Llamani Beach is a popular tree lined beach with clear blue water, soft sand & a promenade.
There are sunbeds if you just want to lie down and relax. Umbrellas and lounge chairs can be taken on rent. The bar at the beach can serve a variety of cocktails.
You wil always find life guards on alert, please heed to their warnings. For having fresh seafood head to one of the restaurants on the beach.
6. Plazhi i Himarës
Plazhi i Himarës is a popular tree lined beach with clear blue water, soft sand & a promenade.
The waves here are really enjoyable. You will find that the water is crystal clear. Kids can enjoy themselves as well here.
This pretty seaside spot has buzzing bars and relaxed cafes. The beach also has several bars and restaurants around.
7. Spile Beach
Spile Beach is a nice wide beach with all the amenities you need to make for a great experience. Add it to your Himarë trip if you have time.
Also, take a relaxing swim in the water. You can also take on rent an umbrella and a lounge chair. You can also use the changing rooms available here.
There are food vendors on the beach where you can grab little something to eat. Life guards are on alert making you feel safe.
9. Borsh Castle
Borsh Castle is an old fortified castle located on the hilltop. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Himarë trip. Checkout the dark underground wine cellar, which adds an interesting character to the place.
The drawbridge provides a passageway to get in. The castle usually draws a large crowd. The castle hosts regular events, do check the schedule in advance.
The castle has had a long standing journey through time. Visiting on a sunny day is ideal.
10. Himara Castle
Himara Castle is a medieval fortified castle perched over the top of hill. Checkout the dark underground wine cellar, which adds an interesting character to the place.
Live events organised here makes it even from fun. Himara Castle is a castle of high strategic importance. Make a visit on a sunny day to have a better experience.
The castle served the purpose of defense, once upon a time. This long standing the castle has stood the test of the time.
All in all, whether you are a backpacker, a solo traveler or a female traveler, a couple or a family, there are plenty of things to do in Himarë for everyone. There is something about Himarë, that pulls you back to this place again and again, to explore more and more.
