    Backpacking Zagreb is a great fun and a must do for every solo traveler to Croatia. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Zagreb.

    5 days in Zagreb is good time to see the best that city has to offer. So let’s begin our trip to Zagreb, shall we?

    1. Museum of Broken Relationships


    Museum of Broken Relationships is a naval museum with scale models of a variety of military ships. Practically scaled models of ships and submarines keep things interesting. The exhibits gives you good insight into the naval power of the times.

    2. St. Mark’s Church


    St. Mark’s Church is a house of Christian worship located in the city of Zagreb. It scores high in the list of the best places to visit in Zagreb.
    The high vault has lot of details built into it. Get on the stairs and keep climbing, you will reach the top, eventually. The church stands tall and even seems imposing on you.
    In the church grounds there is a cemetry as well. The ancient relic is more than noteworthy. The architectural styles that the church is built in are Gothic architecture, Romanesque architecture.

    3. Upper Town


    Upper Town is one of the oldest part of town, with lots of history associated. Plenty of bars and restaurants . Tiled roof houses line this old district.
    The historical district is spread in an area of 10.13 km². Enjoy yourself a delicious meal with some of the resturants here including – Lady Šram, Fantastic Food and Drinks, House of Booze.

    Cathedral of Zagreb is a charming old Cathedral located in the city of Zagreb, Croatia. Right among the top places to visit in Zagreb is the Cathedral of Zagreb.
    Statues are the live examples of master craftsmanship. The ornate interior is eye-catching. Excellent sweeping views of the city can be had from cathedral’s tower.
    The soothing tunes of the old organ has a calming effect. The tombs houses some of the famous people of Zagreb. The chief architect of the cathedral is Hermann Bollé.
    The cathedral stands tall at a height of 108 m. Some of the famous burials here include Aloysius Stepinac, Franjo Kuharić, Petar Zrinski, MORE MORE.

    5. Ban Josip Jelačić Square


    Ban Josip Jelačić Square is the central plaza, the heart of the beautiful city of Zagreb. This is where various festivals, concerts and carnivals are held throughout the year.

    6. Maksimir Park


    Maksimir Park is a large public park in the Zagreb city. It is one of the top places to visit in Zagreb.
    Maksimir Park allows you to spend time actively – engage yourself in walking, running or cycling. Maksimilijan Vrhovac is considered to be the founder of the urban park. The urban park is spread in an area of 316 hectares (780 acres) 3.15 km2.

    The forested peak is located at an elevation of 1,035m.

    It is a popular tourist destination in Zagreb.

    Mesnica NENO is a local market with a variety of items on offer.
    It is a good idea to carry fold up tables. The market is well liked by the locals. I really love the vibrance that market exudes.
    Be careful while buying any leather goods. However, crowding is bit of a problem here.

    10. Ban Jelačić Square


    Ban Jelačić Square is a historic square located in central Zagreb. One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Zagreb is the Ban Jelačić Square.
    The marks of medieval influences are clearly to be seen. On all its sides several historical building surrounds Ban Jelačić Square. Ban Jelačić Square is a part of the town’s original settlement dating hundreds of years back.

    11. Mimara


    Mimara is a museum in Zagreb dedicated to collecting and preserving arts.

    12. Stone Gate


    Stone Gate stands as one of the entrances to the old town of Stone Gate. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Zagreb.
    The old gate is designed in a classical style. The Stone Gate has a beautifully carved exterior facade, with lot of detailing. Decorated with Turrets and medallions the old gate stands tall as the guard of the old town.

    13. Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb


    Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb is a performing-arts venue with an ornate design.
    This theater hosts a variety of shows including classical music, daramas, ballets & operas. The guided tour of the theater is pretty amazing. The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb follows the Baroque Revival architecture style.
    The Hermann Helmer, Ferdinand Fellner are the main architects of the Grand theater. On 14 October 1895 the Grand theater was opened for the public.

    14. Dolac Market

    Dolac Market is a market selling all kinds of souvenirs & fashion items. It is one of the top things to do in Zagreb.
    There are plenty of restaurants nearby to satisfy your hunger pangs. The market is a very vibrant place to be, the energy around here is awesome. Having fold up tables is a good idea.
    Be alert of the pickpockets, last thing you want in a trip is to lose you wallet. The market has a quite a lot of shops around.

    15. Jarun

    At Jarun indulge yourself into a wide variety of water sports.
    Sava is the inflow source of the water sports.

    16. Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square


    Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square is one of the largest square located in Zagreb. It is among the top places to visit in Zagreb.

    17. Sljeme


    Sljeme is a popular mountain resort, frequented by the people who indulge in skiing.
    Snowshoe hiking can be quite fun here, tbh my favorite activity. You will find the staff to be friendly and helpful. The ski resort is located at an elevation of 1,033m.

    18. Croatian Museum of Naïve Art


    Croatian Museum of Naïve Art is an art museum in Zagreb housing works up to the present day. It is one of the popular attractions in Zagreb.
    The museum also houses collection by some of the genre’s well-known international artists. Some of the items on display are popular paintings and sculptures. The collection also includes several interesting drawings and prints.
    The size of the collection is around 1,900 objects.

    19. Zagreb Funicular


    Zagreb Funicular is a fun ride taking you to the higher part of the city. It connects the upper and lower part of the town. This city council operated funicular has only two stations.

    20. Saint Mark’s Square

    One of the favorite tourist places to visit in Zagreb is the Saint Mark’s Square.

    21. Zagreb ZOO


    Zagreb ZOO is a great city zoo housing a myriad of animals.
    Many animals from other regions can be also find here. The zoo is for families to have fun, fore sure. You will find that the exhibits are quite educational.

    Ilica is a stone paved street which takes you through the old town. Add it to your Zagreb trip if you have time. The street carries the essence of the Old Town of Zagreb.
    Take a slow nowhere-going walk through old town street, very relaxing. The old town street usually draws a large crowd. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the live music.
    This busy street is home to a variety of shops and cultural sites. On the downside the old town street feels quite touristy.

    There is a paved path around the lake where you can take a relaxing walk. Indeed, Bundek is a zen place to be. Besides, Bundek also makes for a popular picnic spot.
    It’s so relaxing to see ducks and swarns floating by on the surface.

    Hrelić is a popular flea market of Zagreb. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Zagreb trip.
    You will find some really beautifully done jewelry pieces as well. Plenty of choices to buy unique art and craft at this market. Hrelić is a great place to explore for the curious.
    The market is really a colorful extravaganza.

    43. Jarun Lake


    Jarun Lake is a man made lake loacted in the Zagreb region.

    46. Strossmayer Promenade


    Strossmayer Promenade is a long promenade lined with trees and located in central Zagreb. Add it to your Zagreb trip if you have time.
    Great place for a nice romantic walk, specially late evenings. If you are tired of the walking, sit on the installed benches. Even on a hot day the place is cool thanks to the tree plantings.
    There are street lamps here on Strossmayer Promenade and they look classy.

    47. Lauba

    Lauba is an art museum with a beautiful contemporary collection. The museum presents well the contemporary works of local as well as international artists.
    The multimedia exhibits are interesting look at. Lauba is truly a place for the modern art lovers. Some of the exhibits at Lauba might seem strange but are interesting nevertheless.
