Backpacking Shkodër is a rich and delightful experience with so much to do and see. And in this travel blog I’ll share with you some of my top places to visit in Shkodër.
Going on a 3 days trip to Shkodër is sufficient to see some of the city’s top sights. So buckle on and let’s explore Shkodër.
1. Rozafa Castle
Rozafa Castle is a medieval fortified castle perched over the top of hill. Checkout the dark underground wine cellar, which adds an interesting character to the place.
A moat is there for the protection of the walled area. The views from up here are just fabulous. You can reach the castle on foot or by car.
Over the course of its lifetime the building was expanded several times. Visit on a sunny day is recommended. The materials used in the construction include Limestone, brick.
2. Marubi” National Museum of Photography – Muzeu Kombëtar i Fotografisë “Marubi”
Marubi” National Museum of Photography – Muzeu Kombëtar i Fotografisë “Marubi” is museum of photography in Shkodër with an eclectic collection. It scores high in the list of the best places to visit in Shkodër.
3. Lead Mosque
Lead Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in the Shkodër city.
The dome looks absolutely beautiful on the mosque. The design outside is magnifique. The notable architecture of the mosque is an highlight.
You would love how the building is designed from inside. The visitor hours are rather limited. The style in which the mosque is built is Ottoman architecture.
On 1773 the mosque was opened for the public.
4. Lake Skadar
Lake Skadar is a charming lake in the Shkodër region. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Shkodër.
The water is clear and you can see through. Lake Skadar is an interesting spot for observing birds. A good way to spend time in nature.
A good place for families to visit. The serenity of the lake is spellbinding.
5. St. Stephen’s Cathedral
St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a majestic Cathedral standing tall in the city of Shkodër, Albania.
Excellent sweeping views of the city can be had from cathedral’s tower. Walking inside the crypt might sound spooky but is actually fun. The cathedral is adorned with a beautiful round dome.
Listening to the old organ play is a fantastic experience. On the church wall you will find several religious artwaork hanging. The cathedral stands tall at a height of 24 m.
On 1867 the cathedral was opened for the public. Some of the famous burials here include Mikel Koliqi.
6. Mesi Bridge
The total length of the bridge stands at around 108 m. The construction of the bridge ended on 1770.
7. Kir
Kir is a beautiful meandering river in Shkodër area. Add it to your Shkodër trip if you have time.
8. Drin River
Drin River is a beautiful meandering river in Shkodër area.
9. Shkoder History Museum
Shkoder History Museum is an interesting museum located in Shkodër. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Shkodër trip. The collection includes artefacts related with the history of the region.
The history museum is housed in a beautiful building. Overall, the museum looks well organised and very well presented.

10. Tarabosh
Tarabosh is a tall mountain standing majestically in Shkodër area.
The mountain is located at an elevation of 593 m.
11. Nativity of Christ
Nativity of Christ is a house of Christian worship located in the city of Shkodër. Add it to your Shkodër trip if you have time.
I’d recommend the guided tour, it looks good. The religious paintings at choir are worth second look. There is a cute little chapel here as well.
The ancient relic adds to the charms of the church. The views are just wonderful.

12. Shirgj Church
Shirgj Church is a ruined former monastery located in a quaint village setting. The monastery once housed religious scholars and monks.
Helen of Anjou is considered to be the founder of the monastery ruins. Some of the famous burials here include Constantine Bodin.
