How to Reach Coonoor by Bus

If you are coming from Tamilnadu the nearest town in the plains is Mettupalayam from where it takes about an hour to reach Coonoor.

If you are coming from Karnataka side you’d pass through Mysore and then Ooty. The distance between Ooty and Coonoor is about 25 km and takes about 45 minutes – 1 hour to complete the journey. The Coonoor bus station is conveniently located in the city center, from where you can take a city (or an auto) to get to your choice of accommodation.

How to Reach Coonoor by Train

It is possible to get to Coonoor by Train. Coonoor is served by the famous Mettupalayam to Ooty toy train. The Coonoor railway station is located near the center and is only a short walk away from the bus station.

How to Reach Coonoor From Bangalore

To get to Coonoor from Bangalore, you can take the KSRTC Bangalore to Coonoor bus. The bus runs in the night and you reach Coonoor in the early morning. There are several private bus operators also available on the route, and they can be booked through red bus.

Get around Coonoor

The town of Coonoor is serviced well by public buses which are run by both government as well as private entities. The buses usually start from the Coonoor Bus stand and go all over the city plying on different routes. The buses are very frequent (with 2-5 minute gaps) and are not very crowded. The bus tickets are fairly cheap and cost a mere 5-10 rupees for end to end travel. Using the public transport, you can also visit the popular tourist places such as High Field Tea Factory and Dolphin’s nose point located outside the city.
