One of the most beautiful countries to visit in South East Asia, backpacking Vietnam is an experience that will stay with you forever.

Vietnam is a particularly easy country to travel to, prices are cheap and travelling between different destinations is easy.

Here’s one of my Vietnam Travel Tips, there is no need to get a Visa before hand. As soon as you arrive get a Vietnam Visa on arrival. Vietnamese Dong is the currency of the country, withdraw it from an ATM rather than knocking at an exchange.

Ho Chi Minh | 2 Weeks Vietnam itinerary

Start your trip with backpacking Ho Chi Minh, the financial capital of Vietnam. There are many things to do in Ho Chi Minh including exploring historical architecture and understanding its history through its fantastic museums.

No matter how long your Vietnam itinerary is, Ho Chi Minh is a place that should not be missed. The city has an international Airport and it is quite straight forward to get from Ho Chi Minh airport to city center.

Once done, Hoi An should be your next destination, plenty of options to get from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An – pick what suits you the best.

    Da Nang

Da Nang and the nearby Hoi An makes a fantastic addition to your 2 weeks Vietnam itinerary.

Da Nang is the gateway to the historic site of hoi an. Take a shuttle bus from Da Nang airport to Hoi An, it takes around one hour.

Back to Da Nang, cool yourself by heading off to a day trip to Bana hills. With fantastic public transport you can get from Da Nang to Ba Na Hills in no time.

Hoi An | 2 Weeks Vietnam itinerary

The little town of Hoi An is known for its heritage and culture. There are plenty of things to do in in Hoi An ranging from ancient monuments to the famous lantern festival. In the Hoi an Ancient Town you will find:

You can also go out of the town and enjoy Day Trips from Hoi An.

    Phong Nha

Next Big destination on your Vietnam itinerary should be Phong Nha. The Phong Nha national park is famous for its Krast caves, a natural attraction that finds a place in every Vietnam itinerary.

Paradise caves open to the public are a must see here. Read the Phong Nha Travel Guide to plan your day.

Ninh binh | 2 Weeks Vietnam itinerary

When I say Ninh Binh is a place like no other, I am not exaggerating. You can skip Phong Nha, and go straight from Hoi An to Ninh Binh if you are short on time.

A Vietnam itinerary cannot be complete without a trip to Ninh binh.

Or you can go to Hanoi first and then get from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. Spread on a huge area there are an array of things to do in Ninh Binh, but start with Tam Coc boat ride.

Hanoi | 2 Weeks Vietnam itinerary

Old quarters is the hub of accommodation, food and fun for anyone who is backpacking Hanoi. The capital of Vietnam Hanoi boasts of a rich cultural heritage, and the father of the nation is buried here.

You’ll complete your Vietnam itinerary with a Visit to Hanoi.

Things to do in Hanoi will keep you busy for quite some time.

Popular amongst tourists is taking a day trip to Ha Long from Hanoi. And if you don’t want to return, it is possible to get from Ha Long Bay to Ninh Binh.

To get from Hanoi airport to the old quarters, you can take a shuttle or a Republic bus.

And that’s the wrap, you can add a zillion more destinations to your Vietnam itinerary, the country is so beautiful that once you are there you will not feel like coming back anytime soon!
